Week of February 9, 2026
Here’s a rundown of my week.
Karl and his TV Guides
I lived down the hall from a guy named Karl in the dorm at Lon Morris College.
Karl had a subscription to TV Guide and read it religiously…despite not having a TV in his room. Or ever going down to watch TV in the common room. I finally asked him about this. He responded that he liked to keep up on all his shows. I thought this was odd but to each his own, I guess.
Karl also kept every issue of his TV Guide and had them in weekly order on a bookshelf above his desk. He would get furious if anyone pulled one from the shelf then put it back in the wrong place.
Yes, I did this all the time.
One time while shelving his guides out of order, I took a look inside an issue to find that he highlighted shows in varying colors. Some shows he highlighted in yellow. Others in orange. Some in green. I never asked why he did this as I was scared of what the answer might be.
This serves as another story from my life and as the answer to the question, “Gayne, how do you come up with such weird stuff for your books?”
